Stand Fast Until He Comes

Scripture focus: 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18; 2 Thessalonians 2:1–15; Revelation 12:11

The return of Jesus Christ is not given to produce confusion, speculation, or fear. It is given to strengthen the Church in faithfulness.

Paul wrote to believers who were troubled by claims that the Day of Christ had already arrived. He reminded them that certain events—including the falling away and the revealing of the man of sin—must occur first. His instruction was clear: do not be deceived, do not be shaken, and do not abandon the truth you have received.

“Therefore, brethren, stand fast.”

Standing fast does not mean remaining passive. Until the Lord comes, believers are called to live with spiritual alertness and steady devotion. Paul tells us to rejoice continually, pray without ceasing, and give thanks in every circumstance. These practices keep our hearts anchored in God when the world around us becomes unstable.

Revelation presents the same perseverance in the language of spiritual victory. God’s faithful people overcome the accuser “by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony.” Their victory does not come through earthly strength. It rests upon Christ’s sacrifice and their unwavering allegiance to Him.

The message of these books is remarkably consistent:

• Do not allow deception to move you from the truth.

• Do not allow suffering to silence your testimony.

• Do not allow the darkness of the age to extinguish your hope.

• Remain faithful until Jesus Christ returns.

The Christian hope is not an escape from faithfulness. It is a call to greater faithfulness. Because Christ is coming, His people must remain watchful, prayerful, courageous, and firmly established in His Word.

The darkness may deepen, but it cannot overcome the Lamb. The believer’s calling is to stand fast, bear faithful witness, and trust completely in the victory of Jesus Christ.
