“It’s one of the most misunderstood passages in Scripture.”
“For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven… and we shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air.”
Most discussions focus on being “caught up.” But one important detail is almost always overlooked:
What did it mean to go out and meet an arriving king?
That pattern appears throughout Scripture—from the return of King David, to Christ’s triumphal entry on Palm Sunday, to the language Paul used when describing our gathering to the Lord. Versions of the same custom can even be seen today when dignitaries visit another nation or a championship team returns home.
Once you recognize this pattern, 1 Thessalonians 4 may not be describing what many Christians have been taught.
In this video, we follow the biblical and historical evidence, examine the last trumpet, and compare Paul’s words with the return of Christ in Revelation 19.
Where do believers go after meeting the Lord in the air?
The answer may completely change how you understand the rapture.
Key passages include:
1 Thessalonians 4:16–17
1 Corinthians 15:42–53
2 Samuel 15 and 19
Matthew 21:1–11
Matthew 25:6
Acts 28:15
Revelation 19–20
